Myrel Schermerhorn Beast Mode
Myrel and his family were always such big supporters of me and my music when ever I was out in our community doing events. At my school's variety show for homecoming 2011, I sang and played the guitar to the song-Skyscraper by Demi Lavato. Myrel apparently liked the song because he later told me, "I looked up that song you sang at the variety show, and you were way better than the artist," -that really made my day. Sadly a few days later he was in a terrible car accident and was in ICU. I would come visit him and his family every chance I had or check in with his dad by phone. The night of accident I sat in my room and started writing a song (writing music is always a way for me to escape). A few weeks later and a couple visits later, Myrel's sister Leah went with me into Myrel's room to visit with him. I talked to Myrel even if he was still in a coma, the accident three (3) weeks before, knowing in my heart he could hear me. I told him I had written a song for him and Leah told Myrel I would sing it to him. Sadly, a few days later things only got worse. Only five (5) days since I told Myrel of his song, I had a feeling I needed to rush up to the hospital. When I got there many family members were surrounding Myrel, his mom, dad, brothers, and sister. I made it, but within about 5 minutes from arriving Myrel past away.
Myrel past away on Monday December 12, 2011, I was to record his song-No Ordinary Boy (Myrel's Song), on Wednesday December 14th, 2011. I debated on whether or not I should go record the song so... I changed some things in the song, went in and recorded it Wednesday December 14, 2011. Right after recording I went to the Schermerhorn's house and delivered the very first copy I had ever made. The family then asked me if I would sing it at his funeral and visitation, I said yes. I told Myrel that he better help me through it all, and he did. I finally got to sing Myrel his song.
Through it all his family and I have become really close, and l like to consider them the family I have adopted . I love them all with my whole heart, and would do anything for them...So I did, I made CD's of the song "No Ordinary Boy (Myrel's Song)" and have been selling them with all the proceeds going to the Schermerhorn"s. Each CD is $5, if you would like one you can order them by e-mailing- [email protected]
I would really like to thank Myrel and his family for all they have done for me, THANK YOU!
To Myrel- I'm not saying goodbye, I'm saying see you later-Brian Shermerhorn (Myrel's dad)
